Parkes Multibeam Survey Reprocessing

Periodicity Search

We are still finding millisecond pulsars in ye olde Parkes Multibeam Pulsar survey data! A grand total of ...drumroll... 6 have been confirmed so far. A further 3 have been confirmed by other groups (see below) which leads us to the interesting conclusion that the pulsar "body count" from this survey is not done yet!

The early stages of this project is described in detail in this paper by Mickaliger et al. and has involved several undergraduate students to sift through the mountain of candidate output plots. PSR J1227-6208 was independently discovered in the High Time Resolution Universe Survey. PSR J1725-3853 is an isolated millisecond pulsar. Our Green Bank Telescope arrival times for this one are here and the TEMPO ephemeris is here. Two further pulsars we found as candidates has already been confirmed by a similar analysis by the Einstein @ Home team.

More information and candidates can be found on the periodicity search page.

Single-pulse Search

As part of this reprocessing we also recorded single pulses from known pulsars, which we used to create energy distributions. We fit these energy distributions with three distributions: log-normal, power-law, and power-law/exponential. We also created energy distributions for RRATs, which we fit with log-normal distributions. These fits are detailed in an upcoming paper by Mickaliger et al.

Plots of these fits for each pulsar, as well as the log-normal fits for RRATs, can be found on the single-pulse search page.
